Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers — no invented maps or fake guarantees

These answers match what we can honestly say about Crave Broadband as a Neighborhood Internet Cooperative in North Cache County, Utah. Speeds and prices come from the archived plan cards; coverage still depends on line of sight.

Do Crave Broadband plans have data caps?
No. The published Silver, Gold, Platinum, Plutonium, and Einsteinium plans have no data caps. Speeds are approximate (≅) and plan availability varies by location.
What about latency — is it good enough for gaming or VoIP?
Crave’s published plans list low latency as a feature. Fixed wireless with a clear path can work well for gaming, video calls, and VoIP, but latency depends on your radio path, local WiFi, and the destinations you reach. We do not invent millisecond guarantees — if you have specific needs, ask when you sign up.
Does weather affect service?
Fixed wireless can be affected by severe weather (heavy precipitation, ice on antennas, or storm-related power issues). Most days are fine; rare extreme conditions can degrade or interrupt a link. A UPS at your premises helps if local power drops while the tower still has power — see the battery backup page. We do not claim weather-proof service.
Do I need line of sight (LOS) to a tower?
Yes. Crave’s wireless service requires a workable line of sight (LOS) between your installation and a Crave tower. Trees, hills, buildings, and other obstacles can block or weaken the path. We do not publish a fake coverage map — the honest check is an address review and, when needed, a site survey. Call or use the sign-up page to ask about your location.
Where is Crave Broadband available?
During the initial roll-out, service is offered in and around Newton and Cache Junction, Utah (North Cache County). Coverage is not universal even inside those areas because LOS matters.
How much does installation cost?
Installation is typically $200, but varies depending on location, plan requirements, and custom requests. Faster plans may require additional hardware.
Does Crave sell routers, battery backups, or VoIP?
No. Crave provides the internet connection and outdoor/path equipment to deliver service to your location. Routers, UPS / battery backup, and VoIP adapters or phone service are customer-provided. We publish recommendation pages so you know what works well with the service — we do not resell those products. See What additional hardware, software, & services does Crave Broadband recommend (but not provide)?.
